Me and my friend Sikay were selected to reprensent France at the World Cosplay Summit 2010 in Japan. This was our second selection and the costumes were the hardest of my life even if it's just looks like kimonos. We made lots of tests for the wings, every single butterfly is printed, coloured, embroidered by ourself.
I personally know very well the manga from which those costumes are from, and that specific illustration of Maru and Moro. And I can say that these costumes are an incredibile work of art. No wondering why this couple was chosen for 2010 World Cosplay Summit: every detail is perfect, from the magnificent butterflies to the elegance of the furisodes, from the subtle gradient of the sleeves, to the lace, the matching makeup, nail art, the impressive wings, the contact lenses which give the models the eerie look of some strange creatures. But perfect costumes were just a part of the magic: you should all watch the video of the performance linked in the description.
I gave lower points to vision and originality for the photo itself. I think that such marvellous cosplays would deserve a showcase in grand style. The photo doesn't feature all of the details, the pose is not perfectly simmetrical and the angle looks quite basic, plus the background isn't really fitting (considering also that the characters of Maru and Moro cannot go out the shop where they live). Even so, the excellence and originality of those costumes shine out from the photo all the same.
I'm not really sure what cosplay this is from..but I don't really think that it matters. It's so beautiful..it reminds me of Easter so much, that's why I love it. ^^. The wings look amazing, how did you make them? Did it take you long? (I bet it did!!) The dresses fit so well with the wings, and the ribbon on the pink-haired girl's back makes it look like a kimono. If it is, it's beautiful! The wig for the pink haired girl seems to look realistic and natural, but for the blue hair, it doesn't look as natural or fitting (but that could be me) good job otherwise!
I'm so happy you did this shoot, these costumes are beautiful and they've always been a really original choice from all the options that CLAMP presented in xxxHOLiC ^^
